Session Outline

 

 

Abstract

 

In recent years, podcasting has become one of the most powerful asynchronous Web 2.0 tools in our classrooms.  It’s enormous educational potential allows teachers to use it as a simple resource to support activities within the classroom and to create audio recordings of happenings in their schools.  This workshop aims at providing basic proficiency related to the production and publishing of digital media files (podcasts) and its implementation in the language classroom to enhance communication in speaking and listening skills.

 

Target Audience

ESL/EFL teachers interested in the use of podcasts to enhance their classes.

Participants should have an e-mail account, basic experience in the use of web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, among others), Internet access, headset (or earphones and microphone).

Weekly Outline

 

This EVO 2012 workshop aims at providing basic proficiency related to the production and publishing of digital media files (podcasts) and its implementation in the language classroom to enhance communication in speaking and listening skills 

 

Week 1 - Introductions  (Jan 9 - 15, 2012)

 

During the first week of the course, participants will:

Teadira Pérez

Teadira Pérez is an ESP/EAP teacher at the School of Modern Languages at The University of Los Andes,  Mérida - Venezuela. She has an MSc in Linguistics and a PhD in Education. She has been working in the use of ICT for foreign language teaching and learning in the last ten years at undergraduate and graduate level. She is a founder member and past President of AVEALMEC (Venezuela CALL Association). She is also a Webhead and IATEFL member. She  works as an IT consultant and runs face to face and online workshops.

Evelyn Ezquizierdo

ESL/EFL teacher for more than 23 years, holds a Master’s degree in EFL and works as an ESP/EAP teacher at the School of Education (EE) of UniversidadCentral de Venezuela (UCV), where she is also a course facilitator at the EFL master program, a member of the Distance Education Committee and an ICT trainer. She is a founder member and current President of AVEALMEC (Venezuela CALL Association), VenTESOL’s Communications Coordinator, an IATEFL member, and a proud Webhead since 2005.

Miguel Mendoza

Miguel Mendoza is an EFL teacher. He currently works as ESP/EAP teacher at Universidad Central de Venezuela in the school of librarianship. He holds a Master’s degree in English as a foreign language. He’s also an ICT consultant an e-moderator for the British Council and worked as support tutor for Consultants-E. He’s a founder member and current Vicepresident of AVEALMEC (Venezuela CALL Association). He is a Webhead and IATEFL member.

José Rodríguez is an educator in Los Angeles California since 1996. Currently working with English learners in elementary school. Has experience teaching EFL both in a traditional classroom and technical English courses designed for private business. Podcaster at EdTechTalk and Puentes al Mundo since 2007.  Provided session recording support for WIAOC 2007 and 2009 with theWoldbridges Network.
