Teaching EFL to Young Learners
The IATEFL YLTSIG EVO 2015 sessions will examine teaching English to Young Learners and Teens from around the world using using storytelling and drama, games, and action songs.
Target Audience
These sessions are designed for all those involved in teaching young learners and teens irrespective of context or degree of experience. Participants will be expected to have the basic skills necessary to facilitate communication via an online discussion group.

Weekly Outline
By the end of this workshop, participants will have

brainstormed and discussed topical issues of concern in teaching YLTs around the world

discussed methods of teaching young learners via storytelling and drama, games, actions songs, and arts and craft

created activities using storytelling and drama, games, action songs, and arts and craft.
Week 1 (Jan 12 - 18, 2015) Getting Acquainted - Nellie Deutsch
During week 1 of the course, participants will

join the meeting places

get acquainted with the other members

learn to navigate the group environments

get a general view of the topics for weeks 2-5

brainstorm and discuss topical issues of concern in teaching YLTs around the world
Week 2 (Jan 19 - 25, 2015) Storytelling and Drama - To be announced
During week 2 of the course, participants will:

discuss theories of teaching and learning English language skills via storytelling and drama

discuss storytelling and drama in the YLT classroom

consider the benefits and challenges involved in using storytelling and drama

create activities that involve storytelling and drama
Week 3 (Jan 26 - February 1, 2015) Games - Lou McLaughlin
During week 3 of the course, participants will

Week 4 (Feb 2 - 8, 2015) Action Songs - Charles Goodger
During week 4, participants will

Week 5 (Feb 9 -15, 2015) Showcase and Reflections
During week 5, participants will:
Showcase their reflections using blog posts, presentations, and video tutorials.

Dr. Nellie Deutsch works as an EFL teacher at a community college and teacher trainer at a teachers' college. She also teaches leadership fully online in a graduate program at Atlantic University. She taught English in high school for over 30 years. In addition to her paid jobs, she mentors educators on how to integrate technology into face-to-face, blended, and fully online courses. She organizes MOOCs, online conferences (Connecting Online and Moodle MOOTs), and other online events such as Fall and Spring Blog Festivals. She has been integrating technology into my EFL classes since the early 90s. She's passionate about using technologies such Movenote, Slidespeech, Screencast-o-matic, and google drive to promote teaching as a way to learn. She uses Moodle for her face-to-face, fully online, and blended online courses.
